National institute of Technology Goa

Founded in 2010 as one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India, the National Institute of Technology Goa also known as NIT Goa is an engineering institution and recognised as an Institute of National Importance. It admitted its first batch of students in 2010-11.

NIT Goa, the campus of which is located at Ponda, 29 km southeast of Panaji, is an autonomous institute and functioning under the aegis of Ministry of human Resource Development(MHRD), Govt. of India. The state of Goa is well connected by road ways, rail ways and air ways with various parts of the country

Academic Programmes in NIT Goa


The Institute offers under Graduate and Post Graduate courses in three Engineering Departments: 
  • Computer Science and Engineering 
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering and 
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering. 

The Institute also offers Ph.D in all the three above mentioned engineering departments. Along with that the Institute offers Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics and English.

Admission in NIT Goa


The Institute admits students into the B.Tech degree program on the basis of ranks obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination JEE(Main) and the scheme of Direct Admission to Students Abroad (DASA) with an intake of 30 students in each branch. 

For M.Tech Programme, the Institute admits students through valid GATE score followed by CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech Admissions). Each department is offering 20 seats for the said programme, out of which 18 seats will be filled up through CCMT and the remaining 2 seats are meant for the sponsored candidates.

Eligibility  for MTech Programmes


Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology (M.E. or M.Tech.) in the relevant discipline with a minimum 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point scale grading system or 60% marks in both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels from recognized Technical Institute or University. 

For SC/ST candidates a minimum 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale grading system or 55% marks.

Humanities & Sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Economics and English)

Master’s degree in Sciences or Humanities / M. Tech. in the relevant area with a minimum 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point scale grading system or 60% marks in both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels from recognized Institute or University. For SC/ST candidates a minimum 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale grading system or
55% marks.

Candidates will be considered for Ph.D. programme on the basis of:
Valid GATE score or CSIR/NBHM/UGC-NET qualification
